UE Enters Direct Loan Program for Federal Loans

Beginning in the fall of 2009, the University of Evansville will be changing the way it administers both federal student (Stafford) and parent (PLUS) loans. The following information is important for those who currently borrow (as well as those who may consider borrowing for next year).

The University of Evansville recently researched and compared the two federal loan programs, the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) and the Federal Direct Student Loan program (Direct Loans). UE has historically used the FFEL program, working with several recommended partner lenders. However, as a result of our research, UE will participate in the Direct Loan program beginning the fall semester 2009. When 2009-10 Financial Aid Notification Letters are sent to our students in June, we will include forms and information for the Direct Loan program for student and parent borrowers.

An action step must be taken by all students and parents who wish to use these federal loans for 2009-10. All students and parents MUST complete a new electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) at Students will follow the link for "Complete New MPN for Student Loans" while parents should follow the link for "Complete New MPN for Parent PLUS Loans." Students and parents are encouraged to complete the MPN now. It is not necessary know the amount you wish to borrow; furthermore, completing the MPN does not mean that you have actually applied for the loan. Your MPN simply indicates your commitment to repay any loan you receive in the future.

Visit for more information. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid at 800-424-8634 or 812-424-8634 if you have questions.

2009 Summer Sessions

Taking advantage of summer sessions is a great way for students to lighten their course loads in the fall, get ahead and graduate early or focus on getting a difficult class out of the way without the pressure of a full semester course load.

Summer session information is now available online at Both Session I and Session II offer the same small class size and individualized attention from distinguished UE faculty that UE students are accustomed to. But with the accelerated format, students can take 15 weeks worth of class in only five!

Residence Halls Will Close for Summer 2009

All UE residential facilities officially close at noon on the Thursday following Finals Week. However, students must officially check out of housing within 24 hours following their last exam.

If students need to stay later, an Extended Stay Request must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Reading & Study Day. These are available in the Residence Life Office. There will be a $25 per night fee depending on the reason for the stay. Graduating seniors and those participating in graduation may remain in housing until noon on the day following commencement.

To check out, students must schedule an appointment with an RA 48 hours in advance. Resident Assistants will post signs on their doors for check out appointments. Prior to a check out appointment all items should be packed and the room should be in clean condition.

At the check out appointment, the RA will check the room and furnishings for damages and cleaning issues. Students will provide the RA with the room keys, fill out all paperwork and sign the check out form during their check out appointment.

Students should plan ahead and set aside time to adequately clean and prepare their room to avoid charges for improper check out or cleaning. Personal property left after check out times will be removed from rooms and disposed of by the University.
