Getting Ready for Move-In Day

pic Coming to campus on move-in day can be a busy, emotional day whether it is your first or third time going through the process. There are a few simple tips that can make the process much smoother.

First, pack items in sturdy containers; nothing ruins the day faster than picking up personal items from a ripped bag or box. Also, make sure that no box is too heavy.

Second, encourage students to communicate with their roommate(s) before hand; this will prevent duplication of large items.

Third, if you are helping with the big move, feel free to help your student unpack and get settled in, but try not to linger too much in your student’s room on move-in day; they have activities to get to which will help them to get their college life started!

Finally, and most importantly, follow campus instructions on the Housing Assignment Confirmation e-mail; with years of experiences the process has been mapped out so everyone can have a safe and smooth move-in day.

We are here to serve you and your student with his or her housing needs by providing a variety of quality living and learning opportunities. UE is committed to developing the whole student and our office echoes this commitment by offering services and programs that meet this goal. We want to make sure your student’s experience is positive and supports the transition to post-college life. Should you have any questions or comments, please come by our office, send us an e-mail, give us a call, or check out our website: http://residencelife.evansville.edu . We will be happy to offer you our support.

Three Year Renovation Plan Nears Completion

pic This summer concludes a $10 million renovation project for residence halls on the University of Evansville Campus. Over the past three summers, the University has completed enhancements in Hale, Moore, Morton, and Brentano. The completion of Morton & Brentano Halls this summer concludes the work. This renovation project has brought significant improvements and upgrades to each of these halls. The renovations provide a more modern environment that reflects the needs of today’s college students. Work completed in the four residence halls included new furniture and updates for common spaces including: lobbies, hallways, study areas, computer labs, recreation rooms, and restroom facilities. Individual student rooms received new carpet, paint, and furnishings. Moore Hall also received air conditioning as a part of this project. It is a whole new look in the Residence Halls!

Parents Fund

pic What is the Parents' Fund?
The Parents' Fund helps make possible all of the extra educational and academic opportunities that are central to your child's Evansville Experience, and helps us provide and ensure that financial scholarships are available for students who need them. Contributions to the fund help cover the difference between revenue from tuition and what it actually costs to educate each student.

Why give to the Parents' Fund when I already pay tuition?
Tuition covers only a percentage of the real cost of educating each student. Because we are not a state-supported school, we rely on monetary gifts and contributions to help bridge the gap, and to help us offer programs, scholarships and resources that may not be available without additional financial support. Parent participation — how many parents give any amount of money to the fund — is also an important determinant when publications, such as US News & World Report, rank colleges, or when foundations choose to award available grants and gifts to applying universities. Every gift at any amount truly matters!

Will my gift really make a difference? Yes! All gifts to the Parents' Fund, no matter the size, are meaningful. The success of the Parents' Fund lies in numbers. Each person adds to the total participation, and your support, with that of others, has a significant impact on the offerings, resources, and opportunities provided to our students now and in the future.

Make Your Gift Go Further!
Ask your human resources director if your company will match your gift to the UE Parents' Fund, many companies will. It's a great way to make your gift go further.

To give to the Parents' Fund, please call Robin Greenlee, Director of Annual Giving, at 812-488-2273 or give online at www.evansville.edu/give. Every gift counts!
Thank you for giving!
