President Thomas A. Kazee's Inauguration
The
University of Evansville's 23rd President, Dr. Thomas A. Kazee, will be inaugurated
this fall. The inauguration ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 2, on
the University of Evansville Front Oval Lawn. Because this falls during Family Weekend, it affords the institution a
unique opportunity to celebrate not only our new president, but also the
University of Evansville's family, accomplishments, and history. A number of
events will be scheduled during the week leading up to the inauguration,
allowing UE to showcase its amazing students, faculty, alumni, and facilities.
After the inauguration, there will be a picnic with the new president and his
wife, Sharon. Go to
evansville.edu/inauguration for details on the weekly celebration.

... and Family Weekend!
This year, Family Weekend is taking place October 1-3. Family
Weekend is a great chance to spend time with your UE student, experiencing the
campus with them. All members of the family are welcome, so be sure to
bring everyone along to celebrate.
Some highlights of Family Weekend this year will include the Undy 500 fun
run/walk, the SAB student talent show,
Musical Bingo for families sponsored by the Musical Therapy Association, and a UE theatre
production. There will also be parent information sessions on subjects such as choosing a major, studying abroad,
career services, and Greek
life. And of course everyone is invited to President Kazee's Inauguration
Ceremony and Picnic with the President.
For a full schedule of events go to the
Parent's website. The Parents Connection Newsletter, being mailed out soon,
will also feature more information, including how to register for Family
Weekend, the Inauguration Ceremony, and the picnic.

UE Bragging Points
Treasures & Traditions
Right after World War II ended, enrollment at the University of
Evansville - then known as Evansville College - grew tremendously. Much of this
was due to returning servicemen taking advantage of the GI Bill that offered
free tuition. The college had a policy that every veteran who qualified and
wished to attend EC would be admitted. Enrollment jumped from between 280 to 400
students during the war, to 1,505 in the fall of 1946. To accommodate this huge
influx of students, classes were scheduled from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Every possible
space on campus was used as a classroom, including the auditorium stage and the
president's own reception room.
UE Salutes
Tennis player Kate Chybowski and
soccer player Robby Lynch have been named as the Purple Aces'
most outstanding athletes of 2009-10. Both just finished their junior
years and were chosen first team all-Missouri Valley Conference in 2009-10.
Courtney Kersten's essay "Let Me Ripen" appeared in
Thoreau's Rooster, a creative non-fiction journal from Assumption College.
Courtney first wrote this piece in the Creative Non-Fiction, Writing 308 class
at the University of Evansville. She'll be spending next year in Latvia studying
theater on a Fulbright.
Mechanical and electrical engineering students places
seventh at the 2010 NASA University Launch Initiative. Twenty colleges
from around the US participated, and this yearly competition involves the
design, construction, and flight test of a high powered amateur rocket along
with a scientific payload to a height of one mile and returning it safely to
earth.

Please Give to Parents' Fund Today
This academic year, the UE Parents’ Fund is charged with raising $45,000 in
unrestricted funds. Gifts to the Parents’ Fund bridge the gap between tuition
and the actual cost of operating the school.
While most Parents’ Fund gifts at UE are used to meet student scholarship
needs, they also help fund essentials within the operating budget, including
faculty salaries, professional development, curriculum development, art
supplies, technology, and even heating, lighting, and food in the café court.
These unrestricted gifts are applied wherever the need is greatest, and they are
essential to the school’s excellence and financial strength.
How much should you give? That’s totally up to you. A gift of $10, $25, $50
or more would certainly help! Remember, your gifts to the Parents’ Fund are tax
deductible, and help provide scholarships to students who might not be able to
enjoy the same quality education your son or daughter is already receiving.
To make a gift to UE, simply visit
www.evansville.edu/give today. Thank you!
