Swimming and Diving Earns CSCAA Scholar All-America Award

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams are recipients of the Team Scholar All-America Award for the 2010-2011 academic year presented by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

UE's women's swimming and diving team had the second-highest team grade point average at the Division I level with a combined 3.59, while the men's squad ranked 10th with a 3.3 GPA.

The Team Scholar All-America Award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall semester and in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

Sainz, Wood named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars

University of Evansville men's golfers Michael Sainz and Griffin Wood have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. A total of 138 players in Division I, 49 in Division II and three in NAIA earned the honor.

Sainz, who completed his junior year in the spring of 2011, is on target to produce UE's second lowest career stroke average since 1990. The native of Elgin, Ill. was the Aces number one player for the second straight season with a 74.16 average and ranked number one in the Missouri Valley Conference in the fall with a 71.4 average. Sainz, a mechanical engineering major with a cumulative 3.28 GPA, was also an honorable mention selection to the 2011 MVC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team.

Wood, who will also enter his senior year this fall, was Evansville's number two golfer overall with a 74.30 average, but led the squad in the spring season with a 73.92 average. The Boonville, Ind. native qualified for the USGA's U.S. Public Links Championship in both 2010 and 2011 and is on target for the Aces lowest career stroke average since 1990. A management major with a 3.35 cumulative GPA, Wood was also a 2011 first team MVC Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team selection.

Health Insurance and Immunizations

Health Insurance Options
The University recommends all full-time students carry health insurance. Student health insurance may be purchased through the American College Student Association (ACSA), the University’s preferred source for student health insurance, or the student may rely on his or her own personal insurance policy or his or her parent’s family insurance policy. Students who do not wish to purchase insurance through ACSA must sign waiver cards providing the company names and policy numbers of their personal insurance. Information regarding student health insurance through ACSA is available on-line at www.ACSA.com or by calling UE’s Health Center at 812-488-2033. Waiver cards are provided to all incoming freshmen during the summer orientation and are also available from the Health Center.

Student Athletes
All student athletes are required to carry personal health insurance. Because of participation in a NCAA Division I sport (includes cheerleading and dance team members) the inherent risk of injury is greater. While the ACSA provided insurance plan does cover intercollegiate athletic participation up to a maximum of $5,000 per injury, UE encourages all student athletes to obtain insurance coverage with higher maximum limits. Thus, the University has sourced preferred vendors that can provide such plan options for purchase. For more information on this alternative, please contact the Office of Risk Management at 812-488-2011 for information on providers.

Study Abroad Students
All study-abroad students are required to carry personal health insurance. While the ACSA provided plan offers Scholastic Emergency Services (SES), it does not provide medical insurance for study-abroad students. To learn more about SES go to www.uhcsr.com for the SES Global Emergency Assistance Services brochure which includes service descriptions and program exclusions and limitations. If you need to purchase medical insurance for studying abroad, please contact the Office of Study Abroad at 800-423-8633, ext. 1085 for information on providers.

Other UE Programs
There are some current UE programs that require students (International Students, etc.)  to purchase health insurance due to professional, physical and/or logistical demands of the program. Additionally, there may be new programs in the future that will establish similar requirements. For more information, please contact the appropriate department directly for more details of what insurance is required.

Students without Health Insurance Coverage
There is an option listed on the waiver card for the student to indicate if he/she does not currently have health insurance and does not plan to purchase such insurance. If this is the case, then the University cannot assume financial responsibility for any medical expense necessitated by illness suffered by the student while enrolled at the University. The student must acknowledge that he/she is financially responsible for any and all medical expenses related to any medical care he/she receives for preventative care or illness. Please understand that some medical care providers may choose not to provide service to students without health insurance.

Student Accident Insurance
For the 2011-2012 academic year, all full-time undergraduate and graduate students will automatically have student accident insurance with a per-occurrence limit of $5,000. This coverage is included as a part of your Health & Wellness Center fee. This accident insurance will typically cover costs associated with accidents, not illnesses. This insurance program will act as a secondary coverage if you already have insurance. This insurance will typically cover a deductible that your current insurance may not cover. If you do not have insurance, it will be primary. For more information on this coverage, please go to the following website www.evansville.edu/studentlife/healthcenter.cfm.

All full-time students are required to have a health card on file in the Health Center. Mandatory documentation includes two MMR (mumps, measles, and rubella) dates, a TB skin test with results within the last six months, and tetanus shot within the last ten years. The meningitis immunization is provided to incoming freshmen during the summer orientation program.
