Parents Encouraged to Join the UE Professional Network
The UE Offices of Alumni and Parent Relations and Career Services and Cooperative Education have created a convenient, simple, and direct way for parents to become a part of the UE Connect program and to engage with UE and its students. The new online system, University of Evansville Professional Network, allows students and recent graduates to contact interested parents and alumni of the University as they explore career paths and attain post graduate outcomes. Currently we have more than 300 members engaged in the UE Professional Network and we encourage you to join.
As UE Parents you represent an important resource for students as they determine their majors, minors, and career directions.
The Professional Network is a web resource of career profiles designed to connect more alumni, parents and friends of the University with the career development needs of students. It is a chance for them to ask questions about your field and your transition from a student to the professional world. You offer a unique opportunity for students to increase their business protocol and communication skills.
All you have to do is:
1) Visit the Career Services Website
2) Create an account
3) Respond to students’ inquiries, as necessary. For more information, contact alumni@evansville.edu.

Financial Aid Reminder
- FAFSA
FILE THE 2012-13 FAFSA BY MARCH 10
at www.fafsa.gov
File
the 2012-13 Free
Application for
Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) at
www.fafsa.gov. This is required
for federal,
state, and
University need-based financial
aid. This includes grants, federal
student loans, and federal
work-study. The 2012-13 FAFSA
establishes aid eligibility for Fall
2012 through Summer 2013.
Filing
by
March 10 is mandatory for
Indiana residents and highly
beneficial for all students.
Questions
regarding the FAFSA
should be
directed to the Office of Financial
Aid at 812-488-2364, 800-424-8634 or
financialaid@evansville.edu..
Retrieve
IRS tax data and load into FAFSA:
When completing the FAFSA online,
applicants may be prompted to transfer parent and/or
student IRS tax information to their
FAFSAs. Federal income tax returns
for 2011 must have been filed
electronically for approximately
10-14 days to use this tool. The
UE Office of Financial Aid
recommends that those eligible use
this tool to increase the accuracy
of the FAFSA data and potentially
reduce the documentation
requirements due to selection for
“verification.” The IRS data
retrieval function can be used for
the initial FAFSA or to correct a
submitted FAFSA which had been filed
before tax data was available.
brief video message from UE Director
of Financial Aid, JoAnn Laugel. She
will answer some of the most
commonly asked questions about
filing the FAFSA for next year and
discuss using the FAFSA's IRS Data
Retrieval feature, which allows you
to load your tax information into
the FAFSA with just a few clicks.

Want to learn more about the
University of EvansvilleStrategic
Plan?
The University of Evansville's
Strategic Plan affirms our mission.
Our students are educated by a talented and dedicated faculty in
a curriculum grounded in the liberal
arts, ensuring broad exposure to the
sciences, humanities, arts, and
social sciences. Students have the
opportunity to study in a variety of
fields, from those traditionally
associated with the liberal arts to
various professional fields. They
are challenged to develop
international awareness and
engagement. Moreover, their personal
development is supported and
stimulated by a rich array of
co-curricular programs and
activities. This mission is as
relevant today as it was 158 years
ago — perhaps more so, as our
students prepare to navigate a
dynamic and complex world.

New
Research from UE's Peter Rosen:
Using Facebook to Predict Success
Can Facebook be used to predict
academic success and job
performance?
That’s the question posed by
Peter A. Rosen, associate professor
of management information systems in
the Schroeder Family School of
Business Administration at the
University of Evansville. Along with
co-authors Donald H. Kluemper of the
Department of Management at Northern
Illinois University and Kevin W.
Mossholder in the Department of
Management at Auburn University,
Rosen published “Social networking
websites, personality ratings, and
the organizational context: More
than meets the eye?” in the February
2012 issue of the Journal of Applied
Social Psychology.
“A rapid expansion of social
media over the past decade has
resulted in the use of social
networking websites beyond their
initial purpose,” Rosen said.
“University administrators and
hiring managers have begun to view
this technology to evaluate students
and employees, despite controversial
legal issues associated with this
practice.”
“Our research provides evidence
from two studies that Facebook can
be used by trained evaluators to
reliably assess various personality
traits, traits shown in existing
literature to predict academic and
job success and to be legally
defensible for selection purposes,”
Rosen added.
