Creating
an Atmosphere of Philanthropy
In tIn the spirit of Civic Mission and
Sacred Trust, UE held its first
campus-wide Philanthropy Week from
March 19 - 23. The week educated
students on how scholarships are
created and on the need to support
future students. Throughout the
week, over 220 grateful students
wrote thank-you cards to donors, 250
students and donors attended the
annual Gift of Scholarship Dinner,
and we raised over $7,000 for the
Student Scholarship Fund through our
first 24-hour social media campaign,
UEGIVE24. Philanthropy Week was a
big hit for the UE community and we
are already excited for next year.
Other philanthropic
opportunities for participation is
through our Senior Gift program and
the Young Alumni President's Club
membership. Each year, the
graduating seniors are asked to help
support the Student Scholarship Fund
and pay it forward for future
students. The Young Alumni
President's Club is a great way for
our newest alumni to give
back. With a gift of $100,
graduating seniors receive a
personalized brick that is placed
outside the Ridgway University
Center, membership into the
President's Club, recognition in the
commencement program, and they
leave campus knowing they helped a
future student. If you or your
student would like more information
on the
Young Alumni President's Club
please contact Brad Kastrup,
assistant director of annual giving, at 812-488-2440 or

Financial Aid
Information for 2012-2013
FAFSA:
Students may still file the 2012-13
FAFSA to be considered for
need-based aid, including federal
student loans. Once your FAFSA has
been filed, please respond
immediately to any request you may
receive from the Office of Financial
Aid to correct your FAFSA or provide
verification documents.
IRS data retrieval:
If estimated tax information was
used to complete your FAFSA, we
encourage you to correct your FAFSA
using the IRS Data Retrieval
feature. Go
to FAFSA.gov, log in to the
student’s FAFSA record, select “Make
FAFSA Corrections,” and navigate to
the Financial Information section of
the form. From there, follow the
instructions to determine if the
student/parent is eligible to use
the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to
transfer 2011 IRS income tax
information into the student’s
FAFSA. It takes up to two
weeks for IRS income information to
be available for the
IRS Data Retrieval Tool for
electronic IRS tax return filers and up to eight weeks for paper IRS
tax return filers.
If you need more information about
using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool,
contact the Office of Financial Aid
at 812-488-2364.
Verification of FAFSA:
If the student’s FAFSA was selected
for verification by the federal
processor, we have begun to request
the required documents. Using the
IRS Data Retrieval tool is the best
way to provide your tax information
to satisfy the verification
requirement. An IRS Tax Transcript
is the other way to provide tax
information to meet the verification
requirement. Photocopies of IRS 1040
forms are no longer acceptable.
Checking grades and
credit hours earned in May:
After the completion of the spring
semester, we will review students'
academic records to determine if
they are making
Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Students who are deficient in
meeting these standards are notified
immediately via mail and are
ineligible for any form of aid
(including loans) until the
deficiencies are corrected.
June:
Financial Aid Notification letters
are mailed in late June to your
preferred address on file. Please
make sure that your preferred
address is accurate in UE's system.
Only students with complete files
will receive awards.

Talking Renters' Insurance to Your
Kids
You’ve been
your children’s source for insurance
for 18 years or longer. But now
they’re moving into their own
apartments and should probably get
insurance for themselves. If you
want your kids to be properly
insured, take the lead and explain
the benefits in terms they can

Class of 2012: Your Health Insurance
May End Sooner Than You Think!
The job market is
looking up! According to the US
Bureau of Labor Statistics, the
unemployment rate for those ages
20-24 was down to 13.8 percent after
being even higher in 2012. But
compared with 8.3 percent
unemployment for the overall
workforce, these are still
challenging times.
The Alumni Association offers
health insurance to fill the needs
of many new alumni who will be
without coverage after graduation,
whether it's due to lack of
employment or even under-employment.
Parental policies may not be
suitable for after graduation due to
cost or location outside the
parent's network coverage area. And
for those on the school's plan, our
student health insurance ends on
August 22, 2012. Most products are
available to family members as well
- even if they didn't attend the
University of Evansville. Don't
risk going without health insurance,
especially when affordable options
are available.
