Successful Graduate
Alissa
Fricke, a 2012 graduate, leveraged
the elements of UE Connect and her
relationship with the Office of
Career Services and Cooperative
Education to achieve success after
graduation.
“Throughout my four years at UE,
I knew I needed to focus on one
crucial period. I was preparing for
my senior year when I would be
applying my skills and marketing
myself as a full-time job candidate.
I took the advice that many had
given me and made my first
appointment with career services
early in my freshman year. Through
meetings with several counselors and
use of the Career Guide and other
online resources, I wrote my first
cover letter and résumé. My résumé
started out with activities from
high school and has now grown into a
dynamic list of internships and
professional activities. After using
the interview skills I learned from
mock interviews, professional
networking events, and seminars, I
gained confidence to succeed at
networking and interviews. UE
JobLink, career service’s online
portal, was always my first place to
check job listings.
My internships at Haynie Travel,
Mead Johnson Nutrition, Vectren
Corporation, and Mission Guatemala
all came out of referrals from
career services. Making the choice
to start my career preparation at
year one was one the best decisions
I have ever made. When it came time
to apply for jobs, I landed
interviews and had choices because I
had a plan and took action early on.
I am now employed within my field of
study as business development
manager at Weaver, Dalton &
Associates, a private wealth
advisory practice of Ameriprise
Financial Services Inc. I love my
job and couldn’t be happier!”

Parents' Fund Volunteers |
The Parents’ Fund committee is one
of four volunteer committees parents
can join. The committee works with
the University to help develop the
annual Parents’ Fund campaign, to
make recommendations to campus
staff, and to lead by example with a
gift of any size to support current
students and the Parents’ Fund.
The Parents’ Fund provides
annual support for scholarships that
enable UE students to continue their
achievements in the classroom. The
committee meets twice a year to
offer support for the campaign. If
you’d like to join the committee or
to learn more about the Parents’
Fund, please contact Jen Jacobs,
assistant director of annual giving, at

Congratulations on Your New Graduate |
They’ve got a new degree, maybe even a new job. But does your
recent graduate have health
insurance to cover them in the event
of a serious injury or illness?
A recent report by The
Commonwealth Fund found that 36
percent of those between ages 19 and
29 had trouble paying medical bills
or were currently paying off medical
debt. Among those without insurance,
this group rose to 51 percent. The
bottom line? Whether it’s Short Term
Medical insurance or Permanent
Medical insurance, it’s crucial to
your child’s health and financial
well-being to be covered.
The Alumni Association offers health
insurance to fill the needs of new
graduates, other alumni, and their
family members. For those who have
been on the school’s plan, our
student health insurance ends on
August 22, 2012. Parental policies
may not be suitable due to cost or
network coverage restrictions, so
don’t let your child risk going
without health insurance when
affordable options are available!
