In Spring 2015, 76 UE parents called 381 parents of accepted students (parents of students that had applied and been accepted to UE but not yet made their final college choice). According to the Office of Admission, 125 of 381 students deposited (33%).
Parent-to-Parent Call Volunteers are needed to call accepted students’ parents in November! There are many reasons to share your UE experience. We need to hear from you by October 23, 2015. We would like to have 150 parents ready to make calls during November 2015. Please consider giving of your time by committing to calling five families within two weeks. You will receive a script and a list of five families in your area or within the same major as your student.

The Student Success Team is a group of UE faculty and administrators who strive to develop programming and improve processes in an effort to help UE students be more successful and satisfied. This fall we are excited to share these updates with parents:
Time Management and Study Skills Workshops and Private Sessions: Many students, especially freshmen, have expressed concern about managing the additional academic rigor and new-found independence of college. In response, UE has added both group workshops and private counseling sessions to assist students with time-management, reading comprehension, study skills, and test-taking. For more information about upcoming group workshops or to arrange one-on-one assistance, students should e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
New Student Contact Campaign: Volunteers from across the University are in the midst of our annual New Student Contact Campaign. A fall tradition at UE for nine years running, all new students are contacted and offered an opportunity for a private appointment with a campaign volunteer. Students who express any questions or concerns can then be directed to appropriate campus resources/support. Volunteers also ask for feedback on how we might improve our initial processes for new students. Please encourage your new UE student to meet with a Contact Campaign volunteer.
Preparing to Register Events: The SST will host events for students to better understand and prepare to make the most out of the upcoming period for spring 2016 academic advising and registration, which begins on Monday, October 26. At these events students can learn:
• How the advising and registration process works
• Their academic advisor’s contact information
• What courses satisfy the Enduring Foundations General Education requirements
• Where to find academic information about their major
• How to use the new online Degree Audit program in WebAdvisor
• What to do if they wish to change their major
Students can stop by the second floor of Ridgway University Center where volunteers will be available at these times:
Thursday, October 22 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Friday, October 23 from noon - 2:00 p.m.
Due to ongoing delays by one of the subcontractors involved with the Library renovation project, access to the Library will continue to operate in the same fashion as it has since the semester began. Additional steps have been taken by the general contractor, ARC Construction, to address these delays. As soon as a clearer timeline for opening the Library becomes available, we will share it with the campus community.
In order to lessen the inconvenience to students during the renovation project, the library is offering some of our most critical services from a temporary service desk in the Clifford Memorial Library. The temporary service desk is open Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services available include:
• Course reserve collection
• Pick-up and drop-off of books and other library materials to which staff have access during the renovation project
• Pick-up and drop-off of interlibrary loan materials
• Personal research and reference consultations with our Research Assistance Librarian
• "Ask-a-Librarian" online help is available here.
Our complete collection of full-text online journal articles and e-books remains available from the library's website. Research in scholarly journals and other periodicals is now conducted almost entirely online, and the UE library subscribes to many thousands of journal titles in this format.
In addition, we will automatically place an interlibrary loan request on behalf of any student who desires a title from our book collection if the book in question is currently inaccessible.
Almost all of these services are accessible from the UE Libraries' website.
I hope your students have not experienced any difficulties in using our online resources or in making use of our temporary services. Your student should feel free to contact me with any questions or difficulty. Your student should also feel free to make use of our Research Assistance or Ask-a-Librarian services if they need any help getting started with a project or assignment.

The Office of Financial Aid is required to review the academic progress of financial aid recipients at least annually. The Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy states that freshmen must have a minimum GPA of 1.6 while sophomores and above must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. All students must successfully complete a minimum of 67 percent of the credit hours for which they enroll. The full SAP policy may be viewed here.
Beginning with the Fall 2015 semester, the Office of Financial Aid will be reviewing students’ SAP status at the end of each semester. We have decided to move from annual review after spring grades were posted to semester reviews for two reasons that we believe will significantly benefit students more than the current model. We want to be able to give students a warning when they fall below SAP standards and give them a semester to correct the issue, and we also want to be able to get students the appropriate help they may need.
If a student is not able to meet SAP by the end of the warning semester, then he/she will receive a letter saying that their financial aid has been suspended beginning with the next semester of attendance. However, our goal is that the student is able to succeed and graduate from UE. With that in mind, we encourage all students to submit a SAP appeal explaining their situation and asking for a reinstatement of their aid. Students who have appeals granted are given a probation semester in which to meet the SAP standards. We will work with students who are not able to meet SAP by the end of the probationary term to create an academic plan that will lead them to meeting SAP and more importantly, to graduation.
Students who would like to discuss their SAP progress can meet with Cathleen Wright, director of financial aid. Cathleen may refer students to Debbie Kassenbrock, director of the Center for Academic Advising, for help creating an academic plan or to other resources they may need.

The federal PIN that you used in the past to sign the FAFSA was made obsolete by the US Department of Education on May 10, 2015. If you have not done so already, you will need to create a Federal Student Aid ID and password at fsaid.ed.gov. We encourage students and their parents to create the FSA ID and password now so that you are ready to file the FAFSA before March 10.
