News from the Student Success Team (SST)

The Student Success Team is a group of UE faculty and administrators who strive to develop programming and improve processes in an effort to help UE students be more successful and satisfied.

Time Management and Study Skills Workshops and private sessions: Many students, especially freshmen, have expressed concern about managing the additional academic rigor and newfound independence of college. In response, UE kicked off both the fall and spring semesters with group workshops to assist students with time management, reading comprehension, study skills, and test-taking. One-on-one assistance continues to be offered for students who want help. To arrange a private session, students should e-mail Paula Heldt at ph28@evansville.edu

Spring Student Outreach: Advisors from the Offices of Academic Advising/Resource Center/ Student Retention have made outreach to students who struggled academically during the fall semester. Students were invited in for a private appointment to discuss an academic repair plan and available supports that would assist the student to be more successful in the spring. Please encourage your student to accept such offers of help. If your student has concerns about any issue related to academic success, major, financial aid renewal, etc., and is not sure whom to contact for help, please direct your student to e-mail Angie Dawson, director of student retention, at ad5@evansville.edu, and she will ensure that your student is connected with the proper campus resource.

Spring Academic Advising and Registration/Changing Major: Academic advising for the summer and fall of 2016 gets under way on March 14. Students should be watching for specific instructions from their advisor and the Office of the Registrar as the date approaches. Students who wish to discuss a change in major before registering for fall courses should contact Debbie Kassenbrock in the Office of Academic Advising at dk26@evanville.edu
